2nd day of Happiness

Well this morning i look through my small pile of fabric and choose a dark purple spot and the 4 plain purple and white with green rings for the background to make the centre star for this quilt.  I  watched the start of the video and cut my fabrics as per instruction and then went on to start the paper pieceing. I don't do much of that so i thought it would be fun. Looking at the DVD Jacqueline showed you step by step what could be simpler, but mine did not lay on the same way as hers. Have no idea why will have to investigate if it was the way that i traced or what but  i did win through and was able to paper piece the small bits. Jacqueline  constantly reminds us to press the seams with our finger and that was very helpful and i have to unplug lots of other stuff to plug in the iron or it blows the electric. Cutting the wedges was hard on my knew as the the wood floor was the only place i could do my cutting. Jacqueline gives a tip of a basting the tips of the quarters to make sure they line up OK, this was good but don't do it to close to the tip not enough room for too many stitches and as soon as i pulled it out of the machine out come the stitches. Overall the results were good and will show some photos tomorrow when i can get the camera to download to the computer. To look at the pattern look here

Start the new year with a new project

As many of you know  I am an expat quilter and moving around is not a new experience for me. My recent move to Myanmar however has given me some difficulties with my quilting as my accommodation is not so large and usually when i quilt i tend to have a room to myself to make a mess in. So i need a project to stimulate me and challenge me. I have been selling Jacqueline de Jonge patterns for sometime but have never made one of her quilts.  I have a copy of her DVD telling you all about how to make the Happiness quilt  and I thought that i would make it and report on it in my blog and let you know all about my trials and tribulations if there are any. So today was the start.  I did not want to use the pattern sheet so i traced my pattern using freezer pattern. ( Yes i know  i sell Jacqueline foundation pattern but i don't have any with me here, supplies i brought with me are sparse). One of the tips on the DVD was instead of trying to draw the circles with a solid line use a dash instead this was so much easier. So first tip was a good one. So today i have successful traced three of the patterns needed i thought i would do the others once i need them and then i started to look for my fabric. Will tell you about that tomorrow,

Really excited today my husband has surprised me with ticket to the Yokohama quilting show in Nov.
We are now looking for a good place to stay so that we can get some lovely Japanese cotton fabric. Anyone have any suggestions.
